Important political topics
Farming
The EU is micromanaging agriculture across the Union. This has gone too far, and we see this with farmer protests going on around Europe. The crises we have had in recent years with pandemics and wars in Europe have shown how important it is to be self-sufficient in food production. The next EU Parliament must focus on food production. The reasons for farmer protests are different in different countries, but the common denominator is that food production is not appreciated by decision-makers. I want to change this.
Forest
The EU has no authorization in forestry matters. Despite this, there has been regulation after regulation regulating forestry in the EU. Finland has the most forest of all EU countries, 76% of our country is covered by forest. I will work for a forest policy that takes Finland’s circumstances into account.
Energy
Our biggest challenge in the coming decades will be the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy. Here, we need to seize all opportunities, and not ban any form of renewable energy. Unfortunately, the EU has already done so. Banning internal combustion engines is a grossly inaccurate decision that excludes biogas as a fuel for cars. Politicians should set the targets, engineers should develop the technology. I will work for a realistic energy policy in the EU.
