I am a 30-year-old lawyer and councillor from Espoo. The need to improve the elderly care was my reason for joining local politics a few years ago. At present, I am involved in health care decisionmaking on a large scale. I am a member of the council of the Western Uusimaa Wellbeing Services County and a board member of HUS. I want to continue working for humane care for the elderly, for functioning health centres and for young people to get help with mental health issues.
Important political topics
Accessible health care
One of the biggest problems in health care is the long queues to see a doctor at the health centre. Call-backs from health centres have also been overloaded for a long time. However, we have had some positive development: the county has managed to recruit more staff, and a new GP model is currently being trialled. The GP model should be adopted throughout our area: a familiar doctor makes care better and more efficient. I want to continue working to improve the health centres and make them more attractive places to work for doctors and nurses.
Safe elderly care
Elderly people should be able to lead a safe life and age with dignity. Unfortunately, many ageing people have to wait longer than before for a place in assisted living. Therefore, it is more important than ever that the services that enable people to live at home, such as home care and transport services, work. It should also be easy for patients in family care to get short term institutional care, so that they have the strenght to take care of their family member.
Mental Health
Young people should be able to get help quickly when their mental health is unbalanced. A major problem has unfortunately been the availability of school psychologists in schools: Mattliden, for example, has long been without a school psychologist. A student care team consisting of a doctor, psychologist, counsellor and nurse should be available in all schools so that students can easily get the help they need. Mental health services should be readily available in young people's everyday lives, and referrals to specialised care should be available in more difficult cases.
