Helsinki
"Innovation, community, and sustainability – the foundation for Helsinki’s future. "
I’m Onni Larri, a 25-year-old master's student in economics at Hanken and an active part of Helsinki’s student and cultural scene. I believe that a successful Helsinki is built on strong entrepreneurship, the well-being of its people, and sustainable solutions.
A dynamic business environment and sustainable economic growth are key to a thriving city. Helsinki should support new businesses, streamline permit processes, and ensure that both small and large companies find it an attractive place to operate. The city’s procurement decisions must prioritize quality and sustainability to foster long-term, responsible growth. At the same time, we need to strengthen the connection between higher education and the job market to keep Helsinki a hub of knowledge and innovation.
Being the world’s happiest capital doesn’t mean well-being happens on its own—it requires care and commitment. Our urban spaces and public services should encourage community, physical activity, and culture while ensuring support is available for those who need it. I’m currently helping lead the Nordic Happiness Summit, an initiative dedicated to keeping Finland and the Nordic region among the world’s happiest societies.
The most impactful climate action happens in cities. Helsinki must lead the way in climate policy, the circular economy, and sustainable transportation. We need to make green choices easier and more accessible for everyone. Protecting urban nature, promoting locally sourced food, and prioritizing sustainable procurement are tangible steps toward a more sustainable future.
Don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d love to hear your thoughts! Together, we can shape a Helsinki where innovation, community, and sustainability take center stage. I’m ready to make a difference—are you?
