"Me. You. And we together. For a stronger voice for everyone."
I am an engaged and versatile person with a strong interest in social issues, student politics, and well-being. With a passion for creating positive changes, I strive to contribute to a just and inclusive society where all individuals have the opportunity to reach their full potential. All people, regardless of anything, should have the right to equal value.
My name is Abbe Karlsson, 22 years old, from the small island of Kimitoön but moved alone to the big city of Helsinki at the age of 16 for studies.
I am a student and have studied for two years to become a nurse, but chose to change direction and am currently studying to become a social worker in my second year at Arcada University of Applied Sciences. I have been active in the student union and other study-related activities and have always had a burning interest in association and board life. Among other things, I have served as the chairperson of the Arcada Student Union in 2023 and 2024.
Important political topics
Children, Youth, and Families
Children and young people are our future, and it is our collective responsibility to create a safe and supportive environment for them to grow up in. Families, regardless of their form, are the cornerstone of society and should receive the support they need to provide their children with love, education, and opportunities. By investing in children and young people, we are investing in a better future for everyone.
Equality and Equity
Equality and equity are fundamental values in a just and inclusive society. All people, regardless of gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexuality, or socioeconomic background, should have the same opportunities and rights. By actively working to eliminate discrimination and promote equal conditions, we create a society where everyone can reach their full potential and contribute to common welfare and development.
Thriving citizens
Promoting the well-being of residents is a fundamental task for society. By ensuring access to high-quality care, mental health support, and health-promoting activities, we can create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy and balanced life. Investments in preventive care, education about health and well-being, and support for families and individuals are crucial for building a strong and resilient society. A society that cuts back on social and health care is not only unhealthy but also economically unsustainable. Investments in social services and health care are essential for promoting long-term economic stability and growth, as they contribute to a healthier and more productive population.

Early childhood education should be free for everyone.
Early childhood education is very important. Both for children\'s social skills but also for their development and learning. I believe all children should have access to early childhood education and preschool regardless of economic background.

Schools should prioritize traditional textbooks over digital learning materials.
I don\'t see it as the highest priority, because as today\'s society becomes more and more digitalized, it\'s good to learn from the basics. But it\'s also good to alternate with traditional textbooks, both for reading and writing skills and to get away from screen time, which can harm the eyes and vision.

One of the municipality’s most important tasks is to invest in sports facilities and opportunities for exercise and recreation.
Maybe not the highest priority, since there is already quite a lot, but it is also a very important part to promote everyone\'s health and well-being. It provides an opportunity for everyone to move.

It is important to provide all residents with equal opportunities for cultural activities.
Everyone should have the opportunity to experience cultural activities in all its forms, no matter what.

The municipality should introduce or improve opportunities for residents to influence how municipal funds are used through participatory budgeting.
In certain contexts, it can be beneficial to hear from the community groups that are affected.
6 / 11
The municipality should invest in public transportation.
Public transport prices must go down for people to prioritize it. Currently, people prefer cars over public transport due to the high cost. If Helsinki\'s city center aims to reduce car traffic in the future within the city\'s inner core, public transport prices must be lowered.

It should be possible to be a resident in more than one municipality, for example, through digital municipal citizenship.
What I can see as most beneficial is perhaps for people who work in another location, due to its various benefits.
8 / 11
The municipality should better facilitate the expansion of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.
Yes, the question is just where there is space, while another solution for renewable energy could also solve the situation.
9 / 11
The municipality should mix more housing types in planning than is currently the case.
Yes, more housing is needed where both accessibility is considered, but also where the need is great, such as student housing.
10 / 11
The municipality should introduce anonymous recruitment.
It entirely depends on the nature of the work. In some jobs, you can\'t just let anyone in. For example, in healthcare and education, anonymous recruitment wouldn\'t work because both jobs involve responsibility and trust in the person.
