"Let's be curious - not judgmental."

Hi, my name is Daniela. As a person, I am often considered curious, optimistic, and engaged. I am interested in most things when it comes to local politics and enjoy getting to know various issues.

I am running for the first time in the municipal election in Mustasaari. As an occupational health nurse, I see daily the importance of preventive work and holistic thinking, something I want to bring with me into municipal politics.

For me, it is important that we have an open dialogue between the municipality and its residents. As a mother of two, a safe environment for growing up and strong education for our children are close to my heart.

I want to work for sustainable development where we make wise investments. It is important that we take care of what we have through long-term maintenance of municipal buildings and environments. In everyday life, I am inspired by cultivation and a sustainable lifestyle at our property in Jokikylät, where we are renovating an old house.

If I receive the trust of the municipal residents, I want to contribute to a Mustasaari where we together build a sustainable future with faith in the future and long-term perspective in focus.

Important political topics

Thriving citizens

As an occupational health nurse, I see the importance of preventive work and ensuring that affected parties are included in decision-making. A current theme in the news flow right now is loneliness and the negative consequences of feeling lonely, and I would like to see us in Mustasaari working more actively together to promote a sense of coherence and community for all citizens.

Sustainable and attractive planning

I live in a 130-year-old house myself and consider it important that we think long-term when it comes to investments and ensure there are sufficient resources for maintenance.

Early childhood education should be free for everyone.

I don\'t see it as realistic for all children to have free daycare, as the municipality\'s money needs to cover many things. Lower fees might attract even more families with children to Mustasaari and one of the advantages is of course also that children can get more equal prerequisites before starting school, but it\'s not just about whether the child participates in early childhood education or not - it\'s equally about staff resources, commitment and cooperation with families. I would rather think that families should get more support than that everyone, including high-income earners, should be offered free early childhood education.

Schools should prioritize traditional textbooks over digital learning materials.

I believe that traditional textbooks should continue to be the foundation of teaching, in combination with digital learning materials. The feel of a traditional book should not be underestimated, and according to the research I\'ve familiarized myself with, traditional books contribute to reading comprehension, while digital learning materials can contribute to increased engagement, interest and motivation, and be more cost-effective. I think it depends more on the context than on the inherent value when comparing these two.

One of the municipality’s most important tasks is to invest in sports facilities and opportunities for exercise and recreation.

According to the Association of Finnish Municipalities, the municipality is responsible for creating conditions for exercise and sports activities. The national exercise recommendations are regular exercise, both pulse-raising training and strength training, taking regular breaks from sitting, and incorporating everyday physical activity. These reduce the risk of, among others, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes and provide better balance and strength, but also provide many benefits for mental health. Besides the benefits for the individual, it benefits society when the population is healthy - work ability increases, elderly people with good functional capacity could have a more qualitative life at home, and the need for healthcare can decrease at the population level. The opportunities for exercise and recreation need to be as diverse as possible, and we also need to work to ensure that exercise and sports are something that promotes community.

It is important to provide all residents with equal opportunities for cultural activities.

According to the Finnish National Agency for Education, culture is what human societies pass on to future generations. By law, municipalities must organize cultural activities for their residents, but they can decide how and to what extent cultural activities are organized. Cultural services organized in Mustasaari include libraries, adult education institute courses, amateur theaters and museums such as Stundars. What would we be without culture? Based on current knowledge, I see that the municipality can both organize, but also support associations in organizing cultural activities.

The municipality should introduce or improve opportunities for residents to influence how municipal funds are used through participatory budgeting.

As a resident, I see it as very rewarding to be able to contribute ideas and influence to some extent which investments are made, this I think can contribute to a sense of community. One thing I would like to clarify is whether this can be done more fairly in a municipality like Mustasaari, where it is far for a person in one part of the municipality to drive to the outdoor gym in another part of the municipality. Could there be opportunities to engage all municipal districts in participatory budgeting, and even if the economy doesn\'t allow it now, then in the future.

The municipality should invest in public transportation.

Public transport such as school transport, the Village Bus and Lifti are absolutely necessary in places where they are used. In addition, I think we need to encourage each other to use carpooling more frequently, for example with the help of technology, to reduce traffic in general and thus its climate impact, but I think this needs to be investigated and that municipal residents need to be engaged in the matter.

It should be possible to be a resident in more than one municipality, for example, through digital municipal citizenship.

As I understand it, it\'s about making things easier for people who have holiday homes in another municipality, that it would make it easier to handle official matters and get relevant information, but also that the municipality would get information that would help when mapping out the service needs in the municipality. Why not?

The municipality should better facilitate the expansion of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.

As I understand it, Mustasaari has already built the maximum amount of wind power. Renewable energy is absolutely needed and we need to investigate what the best solutions are for this. In addition, we need to continuously strive to keep our energy consumption as low as possible.

The municipality should mix more housing types in planning than is currently the case.

In Mustasaari\'s case, in my opinion, we are already versatile here. The zoned areas I know of now offer something for most needs.

The municipality should introduce anonymous recruitment.

Anonymous recruitment has its advantages and disadvantages. It could give us a more professional and transparent recruitment process and reduce the risk of discrimination. However, I believe that personal characteristics also have a certain role in a recruitment process, as the work community plays a major role in occupational well-being and can also be reflected in the quality of service, so there needs to be a clear structure, for example that the first selection is anonymous.

If you could give a superpower to your future political leader, what would it be?

The ability to instantly purify the environment and stop climate change.
Invisibility to reveal and combat corruption at all levels.
Time travel to correct historical mistakes and improve the future.
Infinite wisdom to make perfect decisions on all political matters.

If it were just about the climate here in the north getting warmer, but climate change is about much more than that, and without a clean environment and a human-friendly climate, we have no continuation here on Earth, it\'s that simple. Then of course the next question would be what would the world look like if we didn\'t have to take climate and environment into consideration? Then I think there are other problems and challenges to face, and there we humans probably want a strong leader who can help us navigate through life and its challenges?
