Charlotta
Rosenlöf
Korsholm
I am Charlotta, a 35-year-old mother of two, married to Jonas. I work with food, and at the same time, I am currently pursuing a master's degree in social policy, with a bachelor’s degree in biology already behind me.
The children’s hobbies are the family’s hobbies, and we try out most things offered in the village :) Books, animals, and theater are also shared interests. I enjoy exercising, especially outdoors.
I have a genuine interest in community development, and in this work, participation, transparency, and honesty are important to me. After a period in the council and the education committee, I find the task enjoyable, rewarding, and meaningful – and I would love to continue!
Important political topics
Children, Youth, and Families
We need to do our best to support the well-being of families. If one person—a child, young person, or parent—is struggling, it affects the whole family.
Schools and early childhood education naturally play a crucial role. We should have welcoming schools and daycare centers where both children and staff feel good and can thrive. The connection between schools/daycares and homes should be smooth, and wherever the municipality has the opportunity to simplify everyday life for families, we should take it.
Collaboration with the the Wellbeing Services County is of utmost importance. The leisure sector, associations, and congregations also play a key role in providing everyone with meaningful recreational activities that are easily accessible.
Forerunners in climate and the environment
Everything we do in the municipality must take into account the climate changes that are happening here and now, and even more so in the future. This means we need to adapt our operations and plan for sustainable solutions regarding, for example, water management and the circular economy.
Biodiversity, the variety of species and environments, must also be considered in decision-making.
We are proud of our beautiful nature in Korsholm, and I hope we can be proud of it in the future, too.
Equality and Equity
Equality and equity are two of my core values. Everyone should be treated with respect and boys and girls should be met equally. Prejudices must be actively challenged.
Hate speech, sexism, and racism have no place in public spaces (or anywhere else, for that matter), and I speak out against them.
I stand up for the equal worth of all people.

Early childhood education should be free for everyone.
For family finances, children\'s equality, and gender equality, it would be beneficial. The reality, however, is public finances, as well as questions about the workforce and the necessary investments.

Schools should prioritize traditional textbooks over digital learning materials.
Partly for the feeling of holding a physical book in hand and reading in an analog way. Partly because traditional learning materials can be more sustainable than digital ones (e.g., when comparing the updating of tablets and licenses, both economically and ecologically). However, the advantage of digital learning materials is that the content can be updated more easily.

One of the municipality’s most important tasks is to invest in sports facilities and opportunities for exercise and recreation.
Health-promoting initiatives are undoubtedly one of the municipality’s most important responsibilities. Different types of exercise and recreation need to be supported so that as many people as possible can find a form of physical activity they enjoy. At the same time, we have the world’s most beautiful nature right outside our door – just step outside and enjoy!

It is important to provide all residents with equal opportunities for cultural activities.
Everyone should have the opportunity to experience culture in some form. I believe it is important that, for example, activities are offered in different parts of the municipality and that various associations throughout the municipality receive grants.

The municipality should introduce or improve opportunities for residents to influence how municipal funds are used through participatory budgeting.
We have been using participatory budgeting for a few years now. There is great potential for development here: more people – ideally everyone – should become aware of participatory budgeting and how it works. It is also important to clarify how the funds are allocated and the size of the budget. Providing feedback to participants would also be valuable to encourage continued engagement.

The municipality should invest in public transportation.
At present, expanding public transport in our scattered municipality is unrealistic. However, I would like to see the development of carpooling and sharing services, especially making ride-sharing easier and more appealing. The existing public transport (Smedsby–Vaasa route as well as school transport to Smedsby and the village bus) should be maintained.

It should be possible to be a resident in more than one municipality, for example, through digital municipal citizenship.
It would certainly be convenient for those affected, but I’m unsure how it would work in practice. What rights and obligations would come with, for example, dual municipal residency?

The municipality should better facilitate the expansion of renewable energy, such as solar and wind power.
Renewable energy production is essential, but it must be done with consideration. Existing buildings and already cleared land areas (such as buffer zones and power line corridors) should be prioritized when planning for renewable energy production, instead of cutting down forests or using agricultural land and the sea. Small-scale energy production in private homes should be made as simple as possible, and the municipality should also lead by example by installing, for instance, solar panels on its properties. Above all, we must use the available knowledge and technology to reduce energy consumption. Beyond energy production, the electricity grid, storage, and transmission are key issues in the transition away from fossil energy sources.

The municipality should mix more housing types in planning than is currently the case.
For human well-being and vibrant communities, it is absolutely essential to mix different types of housing in land use planning.

The municipality should introduce anonymous recruitment.
In Korsholm, we have tried anonymous recruitment, but with less than ideal results. However, I’m not ready to throw in the towel yet—I want to develop a model of anonymous recruitment that fits our needs. Everyone should be given the same opportunity, regardless of their name, age, skin color, etc. Unfortunately, I don’t think we are yet open-minded enough to completely overlook such factors in traditional open recruitment processes.

If you could give a superpower to your future political leader, what would it be?
A fun but difficult question! The ability to instantly clean the environment and stop climate change would be a selfless act that benefits EVERYONE. I don’t see corruption as a major issue in Korsholm or Finland. However, I do see risks with time travel and infinite wisdom – democracy is built on free elections and the participation of many, and decisions should not rest in the hands of a single person.
