Kokkola
My name is Sarah Granvik, and I have decided to broaden my horizons by running as a candidate for the first time. I am standing for both the welfare area and municipal elections. I am a trained social worker and work as a probation officer at the community sanctions office in Kokkola. I am a single mother of two children and 35 years old. Besides my loved ones, music, dance, nature, culture, good food, laughter, and small beautiful moments in everyday life are close to my heart.
I am running because I see a change in our society, a change where those who have had difficulties and challenges in the past are only finding it harder, and the gap between the rich and the poor is increasing rapidly. This change needs us as fellow human beings to react before it gets worse, leading to increased crime, homelessness, poverty, loneliness, substance abuse, poorer mental and physical health, and so on. With this said, I feel almost an obligation to stand in both elections. Considering the insecurity in the world today, it is more important than ever that we stick together and support each other.
I want to see more preventive work for long-term sustainable results, and I want us to invest in the well-being of our residents, young and old, regardless of background or economic status. I want us to invest especially in families, daycare centers, schools, social services, as well as mental health and addiction care. This is how we ensure that Kokkola will be a safe city to live in the future. All children have the right to a safe upbringing, and we need to support families extra to avoid passing on the traumas of previous generations. But we also need to ensure support and care for the elderly; everyone should have the right to a safe and dignified life. Security is a fundamental need that we all have, and by increasing security, we create well-being and a sense of community.
For me, the Swedish People's Party felt natural, considering that I am a Finland-Swede and that I want to work for security, equality, equity, and liberalism.
The best thing about Kokkola, in my opinion, is the people and the close connection to nature and the sea.
My strengths lie in being open, having a big heart, and a strong will. I do not hesitate when it comes to extending a helping hand, and I want to be a voice for those who are rarely heard. Vote for me, and I will do what I can to try to change the world, even a little, for the better.
