Närpes
"For a thriving and dynamic Närpes"
I’ve been a resident in Närpes since 1985. I worked as a teacher of Finnish and English at Närpes högstadieskola until 2014, when I retired. I still work sporadically as a substitute teacher in the same school and in the upper secondary school. I'm bilingual (Swedish-Finnish) and fluent in English.
I'm married to Stefan, and we have an adult daughter and a grandchild.
I'm a member and active in several associations, including Pohjola-Norden in Närpes, the Närpes Pensioners’ Association, and the Närpes-Kaskö Teachers’ Association.
I'm most active in Svenska kvinnoförbundet, the Swedish People's Party's Women’s Association in Närpes, where I serve as chairperson.
I've been a member of the city council in Närpes for three terms, a member of the city board during two of these terms, and I am now running for my fourth municipal election.
During the current term, I'm the third vice-chairperson of the city council and a member and vice-chairperson of the committee for education and early childhood education.
I'm also a member of the Ostrobothnia Regional Council.
I'm motivated and very interested in continuing as an elected reprentative and, in that capacity, contributing to building a prosperous, pleasant, safe, and equal Närpes for all of us who live here.
Important political topics
Thriving citizens
For the well-being and welfare of the residents in our town, it is important that basic community services, such as daycare, schools, healthcare, and other welfare services, function well. A well-functioning, inclusive society where people feel a sense of belonging, and where, in addition to work and housing, there are opportunities for leisure activities and cultural events, greatly contributes to the well-being and welfare of its inhabitants.
Närpes should strive to be such a society.
The best schools
After the sector for health care and social services was transferred to the welfare area, education became the largest sector for the town to manage, even in terms of the budget.
If we want to continue having the best schools and early childhood education, we need to keep investing the necessary resources in them. This means resources for both support functions and sufficient hourly resources. In the best schools and early childhood education, we need to focus on the well-being and perceverance of the staff.
We also need to make extra efforts to successfully recruit qualified teachers, particularly subject teachers for the upper secondary school.
It is of great importance that we can continue to offer secondary education in the area, both general upper secondary and vocational education.
In recent years, the city has invested a lot in building or expanding suitable and modern facilities for schools and daycare centers, but there are still some buildings that need extensions or renovations.
Equality and Equity
Equality, equity, and equal treatment are about fair treatment and equal rights and opportunities for all. It’s about inclusion, participation, and respecting diversity, which is especially important to remember in a town like Närpes, with many nationalities and languages. Equality, equity, and participation should pervade the integration work we do to create equality in our society.
The city of Närpes has an updated gender equality and equal treatment plan since 2022. There are also applicable plans in education and early childhood education. But how does it work in practice, how is the principle of equal treatment considered in everyday work, and how do we evaluate the results?
Do our residents feel they are receiving service on equal terms?
We need to assess the impact of our decisions from a gender equality and equity perspective.
Everyone is a winner in a municipality that treats its residents equally and fairly.
