"For a Safe and Smooth Everyday Life in Helsinki"
I am Kalle Sällström. This is my second time running in the municipal elections in Helsinki. I believe it's important to do my part in making our city a little better.
Helsinki is a great city to live in, and we must cherish and improve it together. We need to invest in the future—our children and youth—ensuring they get a good start in life through our daycare centers and schools. We must also focus on building the city with sustainable solutions, making it a great place to live, work, study, and visit.
Important political topics
Children, Youth, and Families
No to Mega Daycares
Bigger isn’t always better, and large units are not the answer in early childhood education either. Young children need small groups, a safe environment with familiar adults around them, and spacious outdoor areas that inspire play and adventure. The idea of mega daycares should be left behind because it is not what’s best for the children.
The best schools
We Need More Adults in Our Schools
Children and young people need adults who are present, who care, who see and listen, who encourage and create a sense of security. No one should feel alone or be bullied. Teachers do their best, but when class sizes grow too large and resources are scarce, it becomes difficult.
Alongside teachers, school coaches, assistants, and all school staff play a vital role. We must not cut back on what matters most – our children and youth!
Schools Cannot Function in Open-Plan Spaces
School life is already challenging for students, teachers, and staff. Adding more difficulties with poor planning of new school buildings is simply a mistake. Learning is best supported by a calm and focused environment in well-designed spaces—not in an open hall without walls, desks, or chairs.
Housing and Construction
We Need Housing That Ordinary People Can Afford
Nurses, firefighters, cleaners, early childhood educators, and many others who do incredibly important work—people we cannot do without—should be able to afford to live in Helsinki. We need more diverse housing options and homes that ordinary people can afford.
More Green Spaces and Outdoor Exercise for All Ages
We feel better when we move—whether it’s walking in the forest, having a picnic in the park, or playing at the playground. By investing in good recreational opportunities, the city can improve well-being and public health. And when people feel better, it also saves money.
Outdoor exercise areas in the city have become very popular. There should be fitness equipment for all ages, from children to seniors, in the same location. That way, kids can play while adults work out.
