Helsinki
"A more humane city"
Entrepreneur running a kitchen shop in Helsinki since 2005.
Background as a researcher. Born in Sweden, educated in Stockholm, Copenhagen and Sydney, has worked as an archaeologist in Greece, Italy and the Middle East.
Helsinki is a good city, but I would like to see more common sense in urban planning and more consideration for those of us who live here. The city is developing, but it must be pleasant to live in here and now - not just in the future after the next large project is completed.
Important political topics
Sustainable and attractive planning
Scrap prestige projects that spoil the city. Promote a rich street life with local shops instead of anonymous shopping centres.
Do not repair what is not broken. Respect the city's historical heritage. Do not cut down trees or demolish old buildings indiscriminately.
Housing and Construction
Focus on individual needs in urban planning and housing construction. Densification can go too far - there is enough space in Finland. Don't destroy the marine environment with more landfill.
Thriving citizens
A smaller scale is better for day care centres, schools and in health care.
Helsinki should truly be a bilingual city and Swedish should be more visible in the streets.
