Turku
"An Active Voice!"
I am Janina Achrén, 39 years old, living in Turku with my roots in Helsinki. My everyday life is a combination of work, family life, and a strong commitment to community involvement. I am head of the occupational physiotherapy operations at Terveystalo, and in my free time, I am the chairman of the board for Palästra Gymnastics rf., a board member of Åbo Svenska Föreningsråd, and active in sports as a coach and leader for both young and older people.
I am running in the municipal elections because I want to make Turku a city where physical activity and health are a natural part of everyday life, where sports clubs receive strong support, and where cooperation between the city and welfare region runs smoothly. Physical inactivity is one of the biggest health challenges of our time and costs society 4.7 billion euros annually. At the same time, exercise and sports contribute to better physical and mental health, a stronger sense of community, and a healthier economy. An investment in health-promoting physical activity, sports, and a more active daily life is the wisest investment a municipality can make—an investment that will pay off many times over.
In addition, I want to work for a Turku where Swedish-language services, justice, and equality are always prioritized.
Important political topics
Thriving citizens
We must boldly invest in preventive measures. Our everyday life has become increasingly passive, and inactivity costs us a fortune. Increasing physical activity requires everyone; the challenge of inactivity is solved together.
This is what we will do:
• We will create affordable, accessible, and easily reachable opportunities for physical activity. Physical activity is for everyone.
• We will secure the future of sports clubs. 1.8 million Finns participate in association activities in various ways.
• We will focus on walking, cycling, outdoor activities, and everyday exercise. Physical activity is good for the body, mind, and environment.
Children, Youth, and Families
Today's young people will carry the workforce of the future, but according to the current declining fitness trend, too many will be in insufficient physical condition. In addition, mental health issues are a growing phenomenon, especially among the young. Therefore, this is the most important target group to support.
This is what we will do:
• We will add one hour of physical activity to each school day and in daycares. Physical activity supports development, learning, concentration, and well-being.
• We will enable all children and young people to participate in meaningful sports activities. Physical activity promotes community and mental health.
• We will create exercise and sports opportunities for the whole family, both indoors and outdoors. Active lifestyles are formed in childhood.
• We will provide accessible physical activity for the city's seniors to prevent loneliness and support the possibility of living at home as long as possible. Physical activity should also be visible in everyday life in all care facilities.
Municipal and urban vitality
An active investment in the municipality increases the employment rate, brings vitality, and strengthens the economy.
This is what we will do:
• We will ensure smooth cooperation between municipalities and welfare regions. Everyone benefits from increased physical activity.
• We will increase employees' knowledge of physical activity in municipalities and welfare regions. Physical activity supports both work ability and workplace well-being.
• We will ensure a vibrant Finland-Swedish community with diverse association activities, active collaboration, and networking.
• We will boost regional vitality through sports events. Both small and large events contribute experiences and revenue.
• We will involve organizations and companies in building solutions.
