Hanko
"Hanko will be a lively, attractive and safe city where all residents will want to live in the future."
I was born and raised in Hanko. I am an architect and have lived in Helsinki for about 40 years. My wife is also an architect and we have two grown-up boys and a grandson. I moved my architectural practice to Hanko in 2015 and started a role as a politician in the 2017 municipal elections.
Thus, I have now participated in two terms and now sit as first vice chairman of the City Council and chairman of the Environment Committee.
I am highly motivated to continue working for the city together with the people of Hanko.
Important political topics
Municipal and urban vitality
It is safe and cosy to live in Hanko and most things generally work quite well. This is how it should be in the future.
It is important that we look after the well-being and health of our residents. We should look after the interests of residents in the welfare area. The health centre, the laboratory, the dental clinic and the bed ward should continue to exist.
There must be resources for children and young people, but also for the well-being of the elderly. This means that a diverse and viable economy is the basis for a functioning society with a sufficient number of inhabitants.
The population of Hanko has been on a downward trend for many years, but this year the decline has slowed down. I hope that the trend will continue and that many residents will move to Hanko. We must endeavour to further attract people to live and work in one of Finland's most beautiful cities.

Forerunners in climate and the environment
The most important thing for me is the beautiful nature, environment and sea in Hanko.
This means that we must ensure the sustainable development of our natural areas, but also the city's built-up areas and the entire urban environment. Growth must be a sustainable development that meets the needs of the present without jeopardising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. This also means a carbon-neutral society. In the city, we must invest in climate-friendly solutions, which can then offer residents the opportunity for a sustainable lifestyle and a pleasant environment.
Sustainable and attractive planning
I want residents to have the opportunity to participate and influence planning in the city. In this way, everyone supports the qualitative development of the built environment. At the same time, I want the planning process for housing and business to be organised more efficiently. A full-time expert urban planner is therefore needed in the city. Public transport should work better within the city and to and from Hanko. It is important that the centre of Hanko and the Koverhar-Lappohja area are developed for both housing and business in the future.
